LAB 1 - Monday 1/29

Welcome, filmmakers!

Each week I will be posting all materials and assignments on this blog.

Assignments will be turned in to your Lab's Blackboard page under the 'Course Materials' tab.

Artist Statements:

• Assignment
• How to Write and Artist Statement
• Do's and Don'ts of Artist Statements
• Examples: 1, 2
• Videos: 1, 2, 3, (art21 is a great place to find interviews with artists)

Questions to ponder before writing an artist statement...

• What is the intent and purpose of your art?

• What are your preferred materials and media?

• What concepts and subject matter do you explore?

• What motivates you to create?

• What questions are you often asked about your work?

• Who is your audience?

Be honest about your work. Use simple language and short sentences. Remember, it is an opportunity to help the reader envision your work before actually seeing it. Present a picture of who you are as an artist.

In Class:

• Create Vimeo account
• Create SoundCloud account
• Sign into Lab computers and Adobe (Thanks, Peter Jackson!)
• Fill out this survey
• Can everyone access Blackboard?

Assignments:

• Write your Artist Statement and submit it to Blackboard as a pdf or word document, DUE next Monday 2/5 before class
• Get your hands on an external SSD drive (I recommend Samsung or SanDisk)
